twitterRAGE community music video channel

You may have noticed this new thing called twitterRAGE being mentioned on Twitter recently. What is it? The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) have a music video show called rage – and basically a bunch of “tweeps” (Twitter users) including @misswired @barrysaunders @ApostrophePong myself and others have a shared account on YouTube twitterrage where we collect and make available through a playlist our favourite music videos and tracks for people to listen to … basically a community-programmed web version of the ABC’s rage show.

Worst recent music video?

I’m voting The Bird and the Bee “Polite Dance Song” as worst music video that’s in high rotation at the moment. I’m not sure if my extreme dislike for the video is because of it’s insipidity or slight freakishness – but it just distresses me.

Shoot The Player

“… I usually don’t do things like these but since you want to make something beautiful, I’m in… ”

And so begins the journey of the latest Shoot The Player film with Swedish musician, the Tallest Man on Earth.

Shoot The Player is a website dedicated to making single shot music videos of singer-songwriters on the streets of our town, Sydney.  I’ve been following the site for a while now, ever since a friend of mine was in a video himself, and I’m never disappointed by the injection of inspiration I get from each new upload.

Review: The Butterfly Effect – Final Conversation of Kings

During a recording session last night with Steve, he highly recommended I buy the new album from The Butterfly Effect – The Last Conversation of Kings.  Jumped onto iTunes and bought it right away — it’s in fact the first album I have bought off iTunes as a whole.

The introductory bass tapping and steady guitars led me to believe this album would be filled with the balance of delicate power like the previous Butterfly Effect albums Imago and Begins Here.

However, only a few tracks in, I couldn’t help but think there was something lacking.  Some kind of dynamic I couldn’t put my finger on.  The notes were there, the rises and falls — but there’s something about how the album was perhaps mastered or structured that left me yearning for power. I didn’t feel this album like the previous two.  Overall it’s a 3 out of 5 for me — great ideas, just few of them executed to their full potential.

Disturbed – Indestructible (Review and Video)

New album arrived today: Disturbed – Indestructible

Just over the first two tracks now, and the grinding guitars over the familiar drive of some fucking thunderous drums broke through.  Now that’s a lot of adjectives, but this album sounds like the soundtrack to Armageddon itself.  Getting solid reviews everywhere.  Also the brand new video below (speaks for itself).

A much darker tone overall, with some epic vocals from one of my favourite frontmen David Draiman.  One can hear a much wider use of Draiman’s vocal ranges, and also a few extra layers.  His vocal asethetics range from his classic tones right through to traditional growls.

Found My Zen

My review of Creative Zen Vision:M

The boy who dies with the most toys, wins. After using an Ipod standard (20gb) for 18mnths I decided it was time to upgrade. After browsing many different review sites not only did I find that CNET.com.au was the easiest to navigate, but it also gave the most objective opinion over various levels of technical depths. So if you want the nuts and bolts or just an outline of the features – it covers as much or as little as you want.

In the end I chose the Creative Zen Vision:M. Even now as I’m writing this, I’m looking forward to jumping on the bus for an episode of Family Guy in very sharp detail (the 2.5-inch LCD has a resolution of 320×240 pixels and displays a fucking 256,000 colours, compared to only 65,000 colours on the video iPod), and perhaps not looking forward to the breath of some young punk who decides he needs to LOL – that’s right, I said it – while peering over my shoulder.
