One Way Road – John Butler Trio

New Video Clip for John Butler Trio

John Butler Trio has produced a fresh take on their music with One Way Road, the new single from the upcoming album April Uprising. The music world has had a sneak peak at the tune which has been aired on the Channel One HD advertisement as well as official video clips featured on YouTube, which are quite cool themselves.

One Way Road is a terrifically upbeat track with a more electric and rock feel – far less rootsy than the classic John Butler music. Nevertheless, his original influences remain, in that the song is an interesting combination of dance, rock and roots sounds.

What’s particularly impressive is the layered vocals in the chorus and the funky guitar riffs smattered throughout the track. The lyrics, though hard to understand at times, have a clear anti-establishment message as John Butler sings ‘Raise your first if you believe in revolution!’

The downside to the track is that its opening is far too simple, and seems to have shades of Hunters and Collectors’ Holy Grail (not that this similarity in song itself is a particularly bad thing). Simplicity is great, but in this case I think the chord progressions might have been a tad too predictable.

Regardless, the song has a great energy to it and with its awesome summer vibe, will be a great listen. A good taste of what’s to come in 2010.

‘One Way Road’ will be available on iTunes Australia/New Zealand and in stores as a limited edition release (with 3 bonus tracks) from December 4th The album ‘April Uprising’ is scheduled for release in early 2010. Click here for tour dates.
