Never before, and maybe never again, will we see a music career like this.
Madonna turns 50 tomorrow. I’ve never really thought about August 16 until now, but watching a montage (everyone needs a montage) this morning on the Today show made me realise just what an outstanding career life she has had, which continues today.
She’s still causing as much controversy as she ever was (Google “Britney Madonna Kiss“), still has chart hits, and has her tracks being played in all the right clubs. Her latest of course, “4 Minutes” with Justin Timberlake, produced by the now legendary Timberland.
The obvious question here is – will we ever see longevity like this again in the music industry? Or is it too late? Even some of our most talented artists seem to dwindle away in the background as the latest over-produced teenage wonder gets thrown in.
My perspective is that we might see a few more, but it’s really up to the artist to become about reinvention – because that’s what has truly kept Madonna here. Whether you call it selling out or simply musically evolving, it’s impossible to deny that this is all about survival. Madonna could quit and live happily ever after swimming in money, but she’s not. In fact, she could have done that a long time ago.
And that’s got to be respected – that’s passion.

Madonna deserves recognition for her outstanding “body of work” (ha ha couldn’t resist!)over the years. She is without a doubt the most influential female artist of my generation.
How many nearly-50 year olds do you see gyrating in their latest video looking better than ever? Love her, hate her, just don’t ignore her! Happy b’day Madge! ;)
